UMER SOHAIL MEER
Umer Sohail Meer is an accomplished student, researcher, and athlete, whose contributions span across multiple fields. As a Grand Award-winning scientist at ISEF, Umer developed a molecular marker tool to detect Cotton Leaf Curl Disease, helping preserve over 900 acres of land in Pakistan, China, and India. His research in biogenic nanoparticles and gold nanomedicine has been published internationally, showcasing his scientific acumen. Umer is also a national-level athlete, holding gold medals in shot put at the 2023 and 2024 National Junior Athletics Championships, and is a member of Pakistan’s Under-19 National Track and Field Team. Beyond academics and athletics, he is a community leader and advocate, founding the Patient Welfare Society and Bonded Labor Farmers initiative, while championing minority rights in Sialkot. Additionally, Umer's passion for Arabic calligraphy earned him national awards, and he continues to inspire peers as a leader, tutor, and mentor. His diverse contributions embody a commitment to excellence, social impact, and personal growth.

His story was published in Applied Microbiology International after he became the first Pakistani to win the Grand Award in the Microbiology category at the International Science & Engineering Fair 2023 in Dallas.
Selected as a member of Pakistan’s National IMO Reserved Team 2024 from a pool of 2500 participants nationwide, showcasing exceptional mathematical prowess and dedication.
As a dedicated Research Analyst with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, he has been at the forefront of advancing agricultural research and implementing innovative solutions to combat the Cotton Leaf Curl Disease (CLCuD) crisis in Pakistan and China. Since October 2021, his work has focused on developing and deploying a cutting-edge molecular marker tool for the early detection of the Leaf Curl Virus in cotton plants. This tool has been instrumental in preserving over 600 acres of agricultural land across Punjab and an additional 500 acres in China, significantly mitigating the impact of CLCuD on cotton yields.
